What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a FDA approved injectable collagen biostimulator made
from microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA).
Sculptra® is a gel like substance that is injected into the dermis of the skin to encourage and aid the production of collagen. The effects results in increased volume and skin tightening.
Sculptra® has been clinically proven to improve the skin’s firmness, quality and volume.
Multiple treatments are needed to achieve a complete result. It is recommended that patients have a course of at least two treatments in the pre defined treatment area.
How does it work?
Sculptra® is used to treat loss of volume and skin laxity. As the Poly-L-lactic molecules are absorbed, they stimulate your body to produce more collagen, which over time increases texture, strength and support.
Collagen is a key component for healthy and youthful skin. It is one of the most abundant proteins in your body, making up around 75% of your skin.
You make collagen in the skin up until around the age of 25 and then you start to lose 1% collagen per year from then. By the age of 45 you have lost up to 25% of your skin’s collagen concentration.
The benefits
Sculptra® is good for treating volume loss and reduced firmness in the following areas of the face:
- Temples
- Cheeks
- Nasolabial folds and
- Jowels
The treatment is relatively straight forward with minimal downtime. A cannula is used to inject the product into the treatment area.
Results are visible from a few weeks post treatment and can last for many months. Patients may require maintenance treatment annually.
