The problem
The process of aging, whether as a result of intrinsic factors (our genetics) or extrinsic factors (i.e. sun exposure, smoking, air pollution) is demonstrated by the presence of lines and wrinkles on the skin and most noticeably, the skin of the face.
Lines and wrinkles can be broadly divided into dynamic lines (those that appear when the face is in motion i.e. smiling, frowning, squinting) and resting lines (those that are present even when the face is not in motion e.g. smokers lines).
In general, dynamic lines are best treated with muscle relaxing injections whilst resting lines respond best to dermal fillers – although this is not a hard and fast rule.
Treatment options for wrinkles and lines in the upper half of the face:
- Under 40 years of age: Anti-wrinkle injections , Microneedling and LED therapy.
- Over 40 years of age: Anti-wrinkle injections, LED therapy, Microneedling and possible filler injections
- Sun worshipper or smoker of any age: Anti-wrinkle injections, Microneedling, LED therapy, filler-injections and Obagi Nu-Derm
Treatment options for wrinkles and lines in the lower half of the face:
- Most people: dermal filler injections laser, Microneedling, LED therapy
- Fines lines: Obagi Nu-Derm and Chemical Peels.
